Vanessa Richards is a meteorologist on the WETM-18 Storm Team.
You can watch her forecasts weeknights at 5pm, 6pm, and 11pm on WETM-18 News and at 10pm on18.2.
Vanessa graduated in May 2008 from
Oswego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology.
At
Oswego State, Vanessa studied a wide range of weather phenomena including lake effect snow, thunderstorms, and tornadoes.
As a part of her studies, Vanessa spent three weeks in the Mid West chasing tornadoes and training with the newest technology for tracking severe weather.
After seeing dozens of storms and one large tornado, Vanessa plans to make more trips to “Tornado Alley” to chase and study storms in the future.
Vanessa started her career at WSTM in
Syracuse, NY as a part-time meteorologist.
She has a great deal of experience in forecasting for the
Central New York area and parts of the Southern Tier.
When Vanessa is not forecasting, she loves to be outdoors hiking, biking, and traveling.
Vanessa also loves karaoke, watching movies, and spending time with her husband Matthew.
