ELMIRA, N.Y. - March 13, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have signed forward Matt Tassone and defenseman Dylan Quaile.
Tassone joins the Jackals after spending the last two months with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. There he had one goal in 13 games before the Monsters released him from his professional tryout. Tassone, a third-year pro from St. Albert, Alberta, began the season in the Central Hockey League where he split time between Wichita (3GP, 2G) and Arizona (11GP, 4G, 2A).
A 6-2, 210-pound forward, Tassone spent his first two seasons in the ECHL. Last year he logged 23 games with the Ontario Reign (5G, 8A) and as a rookie he notched 10 points (7G, 3A) in 32 games with the Idaho Steelheads. Tassone was a sixth-round draft pick (#176 overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He competed for five seasons in the Western Hockey League with Swift Current before turning pro. There he racked up 119 points (73G, 46A) and 343 penalty minutes in 187 games.
Quaile (KWAIL) joins the Jackals after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Prince Edward Island. There he was a teammate of current Jackal Matt Carter. Quaile registered 55 points (7G, 48A) over four seasons with U. of P.E.I., but is not unfamiliar with the pro ranks.
The 6-2, 200-pound defenseman skated for the Trenton Devils as a rookie in 2008-09. His 11 points (4G, 7A) over 65 games helped the Devils to 40 wins and a second place finish in the North Division. That Devils team took the Jackals the distance in a seven-game first round series in the Kelly Cup playoffs. Prior to turning pro, Quaile notched 77 points (23G, 54A) in 205 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A majority of those games were with Rouyn-Noranda, but he also dressed in 28 games for Prince Edward Island in 2007-08 where he was a teammate of Jordon Southorn.
Tassone and Quaile are expected to be in the lineup for the Jackals' games this weekend in Reading and Trenton.
