ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals announced
that they have made ten transactions today including sending six players to the
American Hockey League. The moves are made with National Hockey League camps set
to open this Sunday.
The Binghamton Senators, AHL affiliate to the
Jackals, have recalled defenseman Danny New, forward Jack Downing, and goalie
Marc Cheverie from their loans to Elmira. New is the Jackals' top rookie scorer
this season with 11 points (2G, 9A) in 21 games. He has a two game point streak
with a goal and an assist. Downing ranks fourth on Elmira in points with 28
(14G, 14A) and has played in all but two of Elmira's 36 games thus far. Cheverie
is the Jackals' leader in wins with 10 and has won each of his last two
starts.
Additionally, defenseman Ben Blood has been reassigned to
Binghamton by the NHL's Ottawa Senators. Blood scored his first professional
goal in overtime last night to lift the Jackals to a 3-2 win over Evansville. He
is a +4 with 17 penalty minutes in 25 games as a rookie out of the University of
North Dakota.
The Norfolk Admirals have called up Elmira defenseman Kyle
Bushee and forward Andrew Rowe. Bushee is the top scoring blueliner for the
Jackals with 18 points (6G, 12A) in 36 games. He is also second on the club with
a +9 rating. Rowe rates third for Elmira with 36 points (16G, 20A) in 36 games.
He heads to the AHL, where he has spent the majority of the last two seasons,
with a nine-game assist streak in hand which rates as the longest current streak
in the league.
In related moves the Jackals have activated defenseman
Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and forward Brandon Blandina off of reserve.
Dieude-Fauvel, in his second season with the Jackals, has four assists in 18
games. Blandina is expected to return to the Jackals lineup for the first time
since November 7. He was claimed off of waivers by Reading from Elmira on
November 14th, but after four games with the Royals he re-signed with Elmira
earlier this week.
The Jackals have also agreed to terms with veteran
defenseman Kelly Miller and added emergency backup goalie Scott Williams. A
12th-year pro, Miller has 529 games of experience under his belt with 116G,
156A, and 999 PIMs to his credit. He has suited up for the Toledo Storm,
Wheeling Nailers, Trenton Titans, and the Jackals in his past ECHL
experience.
