No athlete likes to think about the end of the season, unless they're holding the trophy.  When the final buzzer sounds on a season, student athletes have a much different perspective than the fans.  There's lots of flashbacks from the highs and the lows through out the year.  Then they start to think, "What could we have done differently to go further into the playoffs?"
Eventually, they can picture the moments that make them smile, from ear to ear.  Most of these are the ones they'll remember for their entire lives.
First of all, congratulations to all of the Twin Tiers teams that made the playoffs, and to those that went on extensive playoff runs.  We know it wasn't easy, but it sure was a lot of fun to watch.  And it wasn't just the post season, but all the way back to the regular season.  There were plenty of thrillers, upsets, and always an eye opening play.
But while the sting of that final loss may still hurt for those seniors moving on, there's a lot to look forward to.
One example of a team that has a bright future, would be the Horseheads Lady Blue Raiders.  It wasn't until the final two weeks of their playoff season, that we really examined their roster.
A junior here, a sophomore there, and only a handful of seniors.  Coach Andy Scott told 18 Sports at the beginning of the season, that his squad had a nice balance of senior leadership and underclassman anxious to prove themselves.
They certainly were, and they certainly did.  One can only imagine what the future holds for teams like Horseheads, but I'm certain that they'll be no stranger to a long playoff run next season.
