What do you know about calories? There is more hype about carbs than about calories. What do you need to know?

Well first of all calorie knowledge is important. Perhaps more important than carb knowledge. Calorie consumption leads to being overweight more so than carb consumption. Meeting with a registered dietician should be your first plan of action. He/She can discuss and determine a nutritional program that best suits your needs.

Here is a basic understanding of calorie intake and weight gain...follow along I don't want to lose anyone. When you consume more calories than you burn and this may go on for a while, you begin to gain weight. Pretty simple, calories in versus calories burned. It takes 3500 cal. burned to lose 1 pound of fat. Very unfair indeed. Obviously this could not be done in one workout session so thats why watching your caloric intake is so important. This combined with exercise help to provide you with a caloric deficit...hence you begin to lose weight.

Choosing equipment at the gym that allows you to monitor your calorie burn is helpful. Remember to put the correct information in when setting up a program. Things like your age and weight are important when you begin your workout. Most of this equipment is accurate and certainly gives a guideline in terms of your calorie burn.  It will take several sessions at the gym and wise food choices when it comes to losing weight. Be smart, be fit!
