Everybody wants to look good at any age. Fitness can help that youthfulness remain in tact. There are a few things to keep in mind as we continue exercising and aging.
1) We can't do what we did in our teens and twenties. It's a fact! The body has some miles on it...face it! Your energy level and your endurance may not be what it was, so pushing yourself may not be the answer.
2) Accept your age, know your limitations, be smart about choosing actvities that compliment your lifestyle.
3) No doubt you have some previous injuries and afflictions that flare up from time to time. Be wise about your body and what it's telling you at this inning of your life.
4) If playing with the kids, don't show them "you still got it"...chances are they'll be bringing you ice packs in the morning and calling your boss on your behalf because you tried to be the Lone Ranger. Not having "it" like you once had it, is okay.
5) A new way to look at fitness at our golden age is what I call the "Maintenance Phase". Allow yourself the chance to enjoy life by spending less time in the gym and more time doing what you like to do. Choose conditioning programs that work the total body. Concentrate on major muscle groups. Upper and lower body exercises as well as at least 45 minutes of cardio are plenty for maintaining a good solid strength base to help get you through your day.
