KABOOM!Happy Independence Day everybody!
If you’re looking for fun and fireworks, here are some patriotic parties throughout the Twin Tiers you can attend.
Enjoy a happy and safe holiday.
* You’ll find one of the best
fireworks displays in the
Northern Tier at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4 at John J. Collins Memorial Park in Galeton, Pa. in Potter County.
* While this year’s fireworks display will be scaled back in East Smithfield, Pa. the community still has plenty to celebrate with a chicken barbecue, craft show and parade Saturday.
* The skies over
downtown Corning will be ablaze with
fireworks at about 9:30 p.m. following a concert at War Memorial Stadium featuring music by The Sam Pallet Band at 7 p.m., followed by the Corning Area Community Concert Band at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
* Try winning a few bucks then catching a fireworks show after the horse races Saturday at
Tioga Downs in Nichols. Post time is 6:50 p.m.
* One of my favorite Independence Day celebrations doesn’t take place until Sunday, July 5. The
Eldridge Park Community Picnic & Pops Concert in Elmira kicks off at 3 p.m. Sunday with music by Joe Cavallaro's Dixieland Band performing from 3 to 6 p.m. and Steve Southworth and the Rockabilly Rays from 6 to 9 p.m. Fireworks follow, lighting up the night sky. In addition to affordable carousel rides, the park will offer plenty of other fun activities for kids. There will also be tasty treats for all.
HEADS UP:The
River Friends’ first River Fest concert was canceled due to thunderstorms, but the group will try again:
6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 10 at a scenic site beside the Chemung River behind Brand Park on Elmira’s southside. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and something to nosh on, and enjoy an evening of great music, fellowship and fun. Delta bluesman Gerard Burke, and folk singer Danny Maloney will perform, along with a special guest.
