The perfect answer to boredom is a good work out. Exercise is a good boredom therapy because it produces mood-elevating brain chemicals, gives you a sense of physical control, and makes you look and feel better. And to keep routines from becoming monotonous, exercise with a partner whenever possible. Give your workouts purpose by training for specific goals, like running a ten kilometer race. And vary your workout by altering your pace, location, and scheduling. For example, if you always work out after work, try it in the morning. True, you'll probably have to get up earlier, but the world looks and feels fresher, newer, and more peaceful early in the morning. And you'll probably feel refreshingly less time-crunched all day long. Most people gain the most enjoyment from activities they can improve in, so any sport you haven't played is an easy way to relieve boredom and get you out of a rut. Of course, if you're devoted to one particular sport, one sure way to jump start your interest again is to seek out opponents who are better than you.
