Becoming a good father starts at the moment of conception. Try to involve yourself as much as possible during the pregnancy. Attend your wife's doctor appointments whenever possible. Most doctors encourage the husband to attend and ask questions. If your schedule doesn't allow for you to attend all the appointments, try to go to all the landmark visits. These include when the first heartbeat will be heard or the first sonogram. Join your wife in her healthy lifestyle. Do your wife's pregnancy exercises with her, quit smoking, and give up junk food and alcohol for the duration of the pregnancy. Also, shop with your partner and together select the baby clothes, nursery furnishings, and equipment. Become an informed father by reading as many books and articles as possible, then discuss them with your wife. Attend classes such as infant C-P-R, the hospital orientation class, and the childbirth classes. Also, talk with friends who have recently gone through the experience to receive support and exchange advice. For more information, contact a health care professional.
