There are many reasons to update your kitchen. Look and convenience are two of the most common. Older kitchens usually need to be updated because they were designed with only one cook and fewer appliances in mind. This means fewer electrical outlets and less floor space than many of today's kitchens. The basic work triangle of refrigerator, stove and sink is now joined by the microwave, food processor and specialty ovens. A professional designer can show you how to transform your kitchen into an efficient work space for two or more cooks. Once the design basics are taken care of, you may want to consider updating your countertops, flooring and cabinets. There are several attractive and affordable options. Preformed laminate counters and vinyl flooring are available in a variety of colors and may be among the more affordable choices. Keep in mind that ceramic tile can be used for both flooring and countertops to create a coordinated look. Finally, you may want to install new cabinets or equip existing ones with specialty organizing fixtures. These may eliminate wasted space and help keep your kitchen tidy. Don't forge... it's a good idea to consult an electrician and plumber in the early stages of kitchen remodeling to avoid costly repairs later.
