Wedding insurance is a special type of policy that offers protection should the wedding be canceled, merchandise be lost or stolen, or if some mishap occurs at the reception. It might apply to situations like lost wedding photos, a wedding dress that gets ruined, or personal liability coverage for guests at your event. Fireman's Fund is one company that provides wedding insurance. The average premium starts at $95. But do you really need it? That depends on how much you're spending on the wedding, and what size deposits would be lost, should the affair be called off or postponed. Most importantly, how much coverage would the wedding policy actually provide? Sometimes the coverage may not justify the expense. Read the policy carefully, including the fine print, before making any decisions. If your reception site demands that you furnish liability coverage, wedding insurance may be the most affordable option. Finally, if the bride or groom is in the military, or has another job that might call them away unexpectedly, this type of coverage could be a good idea.
