CORNING - The Corning Teachers's Association announced Monday evening it strongly supports the Facilities Improvement Plan of the Corning-Painted Post School District.
In a news release union officials said their endorsement is based on the overwhelming need for improved facilities. It said, "The conditions of our teaching/learning spaces are not conducive to providing the quality education that the students of this community deserve.
They listed five ways the plan would improve teaching and learning in the district:
- Improved classrooms and new technology to meet standards
- Universal Pre-K so all students get a great start to their education
- Dedicated space for Related Arts & Special Education Services
- Science labs with adequate space and updated equipment
- Better use of staff resources to meet all students' needs.
The plan will go to a public referendum December 15th. It
would create one high school at East High and one middle school at West High. It would close the Frank Pierce Early Childhood Center, Kent Phillips and Lindley Presho elementary schools and the Northside-Blodgett and Corning Free Academy middle schools. It would also renovate or expand all remaining buildings.
