Elmira - Elmira Mayor John Tonello says he wants city elections held every two years, instead of four.

The term for Elmira City Council members is currently every four years.

However, now Mayor John Tonello says he would like to see voting go back to every two years as opposed to four.

That’s because he says he wants to see more people get involved in city business.

Mayor John Tonello says, "I would like to see alternative two years.  Every year you would see half a council so you’re engaging voters every two years and keep the city issues front a center.

Tonello says shortening term limits would also hold more council members more accountable.
