Some experts say the counter pain relievers could lessen the effectiveness of vaccines, including H1N1 and the seasonal flu vaccines.Taking Advil, Tylenol, even Aspirin at the time you get your flu shot hurts your immune system.
That's because vaccinations work by causing the body to create antibodies that attack and neutralize a virus.
Researchers at the University of Rochester say taking pain relievers reduces your body’s ability to make those antibodies.
Here are more of their findings:
*The earlier you take pain relievers after the flu shot, the less effective the shot will be.
*Do not take over the counter pain relief the day of the shot or for two days afterward.
*People on low-dose baby aspirin for heart or stroke prevention are okay.
An even larger study suggests: if your children get a fever from the shot, its best to let their body fight it off.
