ELMIRA—
Steven Forrest says he's excited to continue his work on the city court bench.
He tells us that his opponent, Paul Sartori has conceded the race.
Forrest joined us live on WEMT 18 News at Ten.
He says the number one issue that city court is facing is an increasing case load. Forrest says he's working on decreasing the number of times defendants appear in court to relieve the congestion.
In September, he created the domestic violence court and that's just the beginning.
"What I see over the next ten years is more and more of these problem solving cases so that the court system can deal with a particular type of crime,” said Forrest.
Forrest says they're already talking about creating a mental health court.
The court would address crimes committed by those with mental health issues.
Forrest has been an Elmira City Court Judge for thirteen years.
Forrest's victory means he will serve a ten year term.
