One local Vancouver man spends his days creating quite a site of the Olympic logo.
The Inukshuk logo of the Winter Games is seen everywhere you go. It is a stone landmark that can be used for navigation, or a marker of some sort, mainly in northern Canada. I'd never seen them... until the Olympics decided to use one as a mascot. Now you can't escape them.
Imagine my surprise as I walked along the False Creek seawall (just at the base of BC Place where the opening and closing ceremonies take place) and a sea of Inukshuks appeared at the water's edge. A single man stood making them.
“Ziggy” is originally from Poland, but now calls Vancouver home. He's been building these Inukshuks for five days straight. I asked if all the rocks were balanced and he said yes, and challenged me to knock any one of them over. Of course I didn't, because I didn't want to ruin his work. But his creations are a work of art: big boulders balanced on small rocks, some several feet high. He let me ask him some questions on camera, which are attached in the video.
To date, he is the most remarkable character I've met here. And his creations are something I will remember for a long time to come.
