ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) - At Mansfield University's Kelchner Fitness Center you have your conventional free weight gym and basketball court.
But in February 2012, the University built something else... a rock wall!
"You work your fingers and forearms a whole lot, chest, core gets an incredible workout as well,” Rock climbing supervisor Davis Swift said.
Rock climbing also builds endurance for your cardiovascular system.
In just one hour or less, you can burn up to 500 calories!
"This is vastly superior to a regular gym where you're just lifting heavy things over and over. That's boring,” Swift said.
You have to be experienced for this climb!
Different routes will take you on beginner, medium, or expert climbing routes.
Even if you just want to "switch it up" for once, this workout beats many others, easily!
