CORNING - Republican Richard Negri has won the seat for City of Corning. He defeated Democratic Frank Coccho Tuesday night.
Negri was councilman for the fourth ward for six years.
Negri says his priorities as mayor will include reducing taxes, bringing the economy back, and addressing the issue of dilapidated properties in the city. He also wants to work on the city's strategic plan that focuses on major improvements.
Negri was very excited about his win Tuesday night and commented on the clean campaign run by himself and Coccho.
Coccho says he wishes Negri the best. He says the people have spoken and he doesn't know what he could have done differently. He says obviously he didn't deliver the right message.
Coccho was the mayor of Corning for one two year term, but he lost in 2007 to current Mayor Tom Reed.
When Coccho was asked if he would run for the position again his answer was "absolutely not."
