As I've mentioned in previous blogs, you have to line up to do everything here. It's just part of the territory. And while there are huge lines for all the free events, there are also big crowds lining up to spend money on Olympic merchandise.
Part of The Hudson's Bay Company downtown is turned into what is call the Olympic Superstore... a chance to buy Team Canada gear, and even though the store is open about 18 hours a day, the lines to get in wrap around street corners. Even a week into the games you're looking at standing in line. Lining up is not my favorite past time, so I find other ways to get you the info.....
Because I didn't want to line up to get into the superstore, I took escalators from floor to floor, snapping pictures across the room as I went up and down, up and down! They're attached in the adjacent slideshow. It felt a little like spying on a club I could not enter.
By far, the most popular item I see on the streets is the red mittens with Olympic rings on one side, and the maple leaf on the other. I bet it's because they're only ten bucks, where a sweatshirt is $50 and a hockey jersey will run you $400!
But, the people watching is priceless!
