PAINTED POST - The path has been cleared for a public vote on the Corning-Painted Post school district''s facilities plan. The school board Wednesday night unanimously agreed it would not have a negative impact on the environment. This clears the way for a public referendum on the plan December 15th.
Under the proposal all high school students in the district would attend East High. An engineering study indicated there could be a moderate impact on traffic in the Houghton Plot area. District officials believe those concerns can be handled by creating a traffic loop near the school and one way streets.
In addition to having one high school the plan would convert West High into a combined middle school. Northside Blodgett, Corning Free Academy, Frank Pierce, Lindley-Presho and Kent Phillips would all close under the plan.
