CORNING - There is a shift in the in the power of control in the Corning City Council.

Prior to tonight the city council was four republicans, four democrats.

But unofficial numbers show three republicans winning, with one ward still undecided.

That would give republicans a five to two edge with one ward still undecided.

The third ward was held by a democrat, but republican Karen Houge was named the unofficial winner.

“Oh I’m excited because all the hard work has paid off, now we have a chance to get some new faces, personalities in the council. Some new ideas and uphold some of the strategic plan", said Houge.

“Probably why I lost because everyone knows I’m against the school alternate and I think the majority of the people in the ward are in favor of it” said Democratic candidate James Scouten.

Now Houge won the seat held by Democrat Hilda Lando.

She was running for Steuben County Legislator position against Republican Philip Palmesano.

Unofficial numbers have Palmesano winning the election.

“Humbling, I’m just overwhelmed with the support the city was showing me and the confidence and trust they’ve placed in me, to be their next county legislator”, said Palmesano.

“It was a good race. I had a lot of fun going door-to-door, we gave people a chance and that was a good thing and the voters answered and that’s the way it goes”, said Lando.

Now as for the city council, Richard Negri was the councilman for the forth district.

He says now that he has won the Republican Party will nominate one person as well as the Democratic Party.

Then the city council will vote for who will replace Negri.
