ELMIRA, NEW YORK - Award finalists often hear, "You're all winners, in our book." It's a nice sentiment, but players know the truth, when they go home empty handed.
So when it was announced that history was going to be made at the Elmira Holiday Inn, some in attendance, may have thought there was a tie. They were more right then they knew, because Mike D'Aloisio kept pulling out trophies from underneath the table.
Elmira's Jerry McPeak, Horseheads' Glen Watson, and Notre Dame's Tom Agan all took home the Ernie Davis Award, after a three-way tie.
Their stats were read as a group, which should have eluded to the results.
Student athletes were nominated by their coaches, and then voted on. It may have been one of the few nights, where the football players heard kudos from their tough coaches.
The Joel Stephens Award was also handed out tonight. Only one individual would hoist this trophy, and that was Odessa-Montour's Lee Sidle.
All of the winners were well aware of the importance of their roles off the field, in regards to the name bearers of each trophy.
