NEW YORK - Cody Eppley didn't stay on the waiver wire for long. One day after being waived by the Texas Rangers, the New York Yankees claimed the former Elmira Pioneer.
The Yankees will assign Eppley to AAA Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to begin the season.
Eppley, who pitched for Elmira in 2006, made ten appearances as a relief pitcher for Texas last season - including his first Major League win. He went 1-1 with an 8.00 ERA before getting sent back to AAA.
Texas designated Eppley for assignment Wednesday in order to add infielder Alberto Gonzalez and pitcher Robbie Ross to the 40-man roster for Opening Day.
