Fulton, N.Y. (AP) - A company that bought the closed Birds Eye plant in Fulton plans to open a food-processing facility that will employ 183 people.

The plant was purchased last week by a real estate holding company according to the Post-Standard of Syracuse. New York is giving the company up to $1 million in Excelsior tax credits in exchange for a commitment to create 183 jobs.

When Birds Eye closed its vegetable-processing plant in December 2011, it eliminated 280 jobs. Oswego County's 9.5 percent unemployment rate in November was one of the highest in the state.

Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward said the new ownership group isn't ready to disclose the name of the food-processing company that will go into the facility.
