BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Buffalo State College is issuing a security alert to students to never walk alone, following two attacks.

One of those incidents happened Saturday, when the purses of two women were stolen by a suspect as they were walking near Richmond Avenue and Dorchester Road.

One of the victims was a student, and thankfully no one was injured.

But on Friday night in a separate incident, shots rang ran out at Grant Street and Potomac Avenue around 11:30 P.M. It all started when three male Buff-State students were walking to get food.

They were approached by at least five suspects who then attacked, robbed and beat the students.

As the suspects fled the scene they began to shoot at the students. One of the victims, Jabril Muhammad was shot in the arm and underwent surgery over the weekend.

Buffalo State is also encouraging students to use the school's free escort program, that provides a walking companion or a free "on-campus" ride to all students, faculty and staff.

Anyone with information on any of these cases, is are asked to call the Buffalo police confidential tip line at 716-847-2255
