Albany, N.Y. - A federal grant is being touted as an easier way for New Yorkers to get affordable health insurance.

The $185.8 million grant will be used to create a state health benefit exchange.

The goal is to reduce the number of uninsured New Yorkers, and to provide more affordable health insurance for individuals, families, and small businesses.

Open enrollment begins in October 2013 and will run for six months.  Coverage will begin on January 1, 2014.

It's estimated that one million New Yorkers will be insured through the exchange once it's fully implemented.
