Washington, D.C. - The White House and Congress are racing against the clock to solve automatic budget slashing which kicks in at the end of this week.

One big local impact would be that the FAA would lose hundreds of millions of dollars. Workers would be furloughed, meaning air traffic control towers in Rochester could shut down in overnight hours.

“I think eventually someone has got to be bothered because of the budget crisis and we can't continue to spend how we're spending,” said traveler Rob Leavens. “Something has got to give and if we have some wait times, that would be acceptable--but I say that now, before the wait times.”

Democrats and Republicans are set to introduce proposals to stop the across-the-board spending cuts--but neither side thinks a bill can get through Congress before Friday's deadline.
