New York (AP) - An auto safety group says the New York highway where seven family members were killed after plunging 60 feet into a ravine has inadequate guardrails.
A spokesman for the American Automobile Association's New York City affiliate says there are also narrow lanes, steep hills, tight turns and no breakdown lane.
Robert Sinclair says the Bronx River Parkway was opened in 1925 and lacks modern engineering features.
Police said an out-of-control SUV carrying seven members of a Bronx family hit a curb and went flying over a guardrail Sunday. It plummeted six stories onto the grounds of the Bronx Zoo, killing everyone on impact.
Relatives gathered Monday at the driver's home, where a small memorial with flowers and candles was erected. A funeral is scheduled for Friday.
