Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Seth Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBI as the Oakland Athletics took a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Cactus League play.
Jonny Gomes scored twice while Brandon Allen drove in a run for the Athletics. Travis Schlichting went three innings in the start and gave up one run on two hits.
Geovany Soto hit a solo home run while Marlon Byrd and Starlin Castro each drove in a run for the Cubs. Paul Maholm gave up three unearned runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts over three innings.
