Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals already strong rotation got even better on Tuesday, as the team reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with free agent right-hander Dan Haren.

According to Fox Sports, the pact is worth $13.5 million and is pending a physical.

Haren struggled through back injuries last season and was just 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA in 30 starts for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He was close to being dealt to the Chicago Cubs earlier this offseason and had his $15.5 million option declined by the Halos.

The poor season came on the heels of one his best years as a pro in 2011 when he matched a career best with 16 wins to go along with a 3.17 ERA in a league-high 34 starts.

From 2005 to 2011, Haren never pitched less than 216 innings in a season and his highest ERA during that span was 4.16 with the Oakland Athletics in 2006. Overall, he was 101-74 during that stretch with a 3.49 ERA.

A three-time All-Star, Haren joins a loaded Nationals rotation that already includes phenom Stephen Strasburg, 21-game winner Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmerman.

Haren has compiled a 119-97 record with a 3.66 ERA in 296 games (286 starts) with St. Louis, Oakland, Arizona and the Angels.
